Our History

how it started

our club history

Founded in 1972, Thanet Gymnastics Club has a rich history and strong community roots. The club was built and supported over many years by Tony and Patsy Burgess, whose dedication helped shape the welcoming and family-focused environment we continue to uphold today.

The club is now proudly led by their daughter, Emma Smith, who continues her parents’ legacy as Head Coach, bringing enthusiasm, expertise, and a commitment to excellence. Under Emma’s leadership, the club continues to grow — providing opportunities for children and young people to develop confidence, discipline, and a love for gymnastics.

Thanet Gymnastics Club is a non-profit organisation devoted to delivering a positive, diverse, and inspiring environment for all. Our loyal and enthusiastic coaches are committed to supporting every gymnast — whether they are taking their first steps in the sport or striving for competitive success.
